Safety First - Club Rules
Cowlitz Gun Club takes the safety of our club members and guests seriously. We strive to be a good example of safe, enjoyable shooting sports. To safeguard all participants, we adhere to the “Firearm Basics” known to all shooters, as well as specific club rules established by our Board. All shooters are required to adhere to these rules, for their safety and that of their fellow shooters. All members and guests are encouraged to remind fellow shooters of our rules.
Firearm safety basics can be found at: Thompson Center Gun Safety Rules
HERE ARE THE CLUB RULES:
Treat every gun as though it is loaded.
Keep the action OPEN and UNLOADED when carrying your gun on the club grounds.
Make sure the barrel is clear before loading. Double check after any malfunction of gun or load.
Load your gun at the firing station only. Remove shell, loaded or empty, when moving from station to station.
DO NOT close gun action until it is your turn to shoot.
NEVER load more than one shell in your gun except when shooting doubles or continental.
NEVER point your gun toward the trap house when red warning flag or cone is displayed.
While on the firing line, keep your gun pointed down except while actually shooting. Don’t be a gun waver!
Do not shoot at birds called for by other shooters except at Annie Oakley and Buddy shoots.
NEVER discard a misfired shell on the ground.
Be as careful with gunpowder and alcohol as you are with alcohol and gas.
Shooting is a serious game. Avoid all horseplay with guns. Obey local club rules in all respects.
Only legal ammunition as described in the ATA or PITA rule book will be allowed on the range.
